Roadmap to Graduation

A. Register for the program each semester, and pay your tuition
B. Complete and pass 50 credits of course work (42 for the accelerated program), including:
  • 30 credits of core courses
  • 7 credits of applied and integrated learning courses
  • 9 credits of concentration-specific courses

To pass, students must earn at least a C (73%) in each required course. Failure to earn a C (73%) may mean re-taking the course, likely the following year.

C. Complete at least 120 hours of applied public health practice under the supervision of a public health mentor

This is most often accomplished through a summer Applied Practice Experience, and includes development of at least two products of value to public health partners. Students present their work at the annual Public Health Symposium, and include project deliverables in their portfolio.

Achievement of competence is demonstrated by the successful completion of course-related assignments included in each student’s portfolio.

E. Present a final Integrative Learning Experience

This is a substantive written document of value to the field of public health included in each student’s portfolio.

F. Present a complete portfolio

Portfolios demonstrate personal and professional growth and competence in all domains. The completed portfolio is evaluated by faculty and staff to assess readiness to graduate.
