C-CHANGE

Center for Research on Climate, Health and Equity in a Changing Environment

The Center for Research on Climate, Health and Equity in a Changing Environment (C-CHANGE) seeks to confront the enormous impacts of climate change on human and ecosystem health through transdisciplinary and community-engaged research, education, and practice (both public health and veterinary). Through our work, we strive to help communities and nature adapt to our rapidly changing world. Founded in partnership with the University of Pretoria, C-CHANGE performs research ranging from local (Ithaca, New York State) to around the world.

Areas of Focus

We seek to better understand and address the effects of climate change on: emergency preparedness and management; food systems; community and ecosystem resilience; and infectious disease emergence, spread, and transmission.

Emergency Preparedness and Management

This research addresses the increased frequency and severity of emergencies and the need for improved preparedness and management to reduce vulnerability to disasters and promote a resilient response.

Food Systems

Healthy food systems ensure access to safe, nutritious, and affordable food for all, while promoting sustainable, equitable practices across the entire food chain, from production to consumption.

Community and Ecosystem Resilience

Community and ecosystem resilience research focuses on increasing the ability of social and ecological systems to withstand and recover from disturbances, whether natural or human-made.

Infectious Disease

Infectious disease research focuses on the ecology, biology, and health impacts of viral, bacterial, fungal and parasitic agents, as well as the arthropod vectors that can carry and transmit diseases.

The work of C-CHANGE is complemented by the Cornell University Health Impacts Core, which seeks to advance community health and well-being through professional public health practice and capacity strengthening.
